Colonics
A colonic is also known by many people as colonic irrigation, and colonic hydrotherapy. This type of procedure involves using colonic irrigation equipment, and inserting water into the rectum area by a licensed professional colon therapist. The water then flushes out of the rectum and rids the body of the dangerous blockage of stool. Sometimes the stool can become quite bulky and very difficult to pass. When this happens, the result is constipation. Constipation can cause cramping, bloating, irritability, pain in the abdomen and sweating. Stool should be passed approximately 18 hours after a meal and it should be a soft release. A well known condition experienced by many, known as hemorrhoids, may develop when someone is straining too much when having a bowel movement. Hemorrhoids develop when blood is pushes at a fast pace through the veins into the rectum area. The veins then become inflamed, irritated, and can even bleed. If someone is constipated they might have a very hard time passing stool if they have hemorrhoids as it can results in scarring and ripping of the anal tissues.
When someone is going to undergo a colonic, the first step will be to fill out a medical form which will include current conditions, previous conditions and medical history. The patient will be asked to undress and get into a hospital gown by the colon hydrotherapist. The next step will be to lie facing up on the medical examination table. The specialist will then use a speculum and insert it into the rectum. A hose is attached to the speculum and this is where the water will travel from. The colon hydrotherapist will use filtered, warm water and this is gradually released into the area of the colon. The muscles in the colon will contract once the warm water is released. This then helps to loosen stool (feces) and allow it to pass through the hose and out of the individual's system, therefore cleansing the bowel. There is only a mild form of discomfort during a colonic procedure and the benefits of this method can increase the life span of an individual. The patient will be able to rid themselves of any extra feces that might be moving through the system. Usually a colonic will take anywhere from 40 to 60 minutes.
Sometimes people buy over the counter enemas to flush the system of any unwanted toxins and waste. An enema and a colonic serve the same type of function, yet a colonic is more thorough in the process f cleansing. People usually get a colonic because they are suffering from constipation or want to prevent it, to increase levels of health, and to remove the build up of stool in the bowel.
The build up of stool in the bowel and colon can result in other problems such as:
- Decrease in nutrient, vitamins and water intake.
- Bacteria growth within the colon.
- Constipation.
- The growth of even more toxins that can flow into the blood stream.
Some side effects of colonics are:
- Constant fatigue.
- Nausea and pain in the abdomen.
- Serious side effects can include electrolyte imbalances, abdominal wall scarring and heart failure.
